daily commute as a traveler

Hello! My name is Jacqueline, I am currently 8 months from taking my board exam for PTA. I have been researching traveling PTA and my most recent question is what does a daily commute look like for someone if they do not have their car on them? How does reimbursement work if you don't have public transportation near your home?

I am looking into being on the west coast (NJ native), and just want more open insight on how everyone's experience has been with how you get to and from your assigned positions on a daily basis.

Thanks so much!

Hey Jackie,

I think transportation is a factor you have to be considering when choosing an assignment.

I often bought a beater car on Craigslist at the start of an assignment and sold it at the end - but that's a lot of footwork.

On one assignment in Alaska, the owner of the clinic my wife was working in had a car that she loaned out to her travelers.

Often there's little local companies that will rent beat-up cars cheaply for longer periods.

So, there might be options for you depending on where you go. But, whatever you decide, you need to bee thinking about it when you start exploring assignments. If you plan on traveling to cities and using public transportation, make sure your workplace is near a stop before accepting the assignment. Explore car rental companies and rates ahead of time.... you'll have to do your homework.

Arranging your commute may be a little added challenge, but with proper planning, you should be able to pull it off.

Hope this helps,

James
