Packing List

Unread post by alibishop88 » Tue Nov 24, 2015 1:36 pm

Hello,

I will be starting travel therapy in January/February but currently live in MN and will be starting out in CA. I have started packing up my summer stuff but it is adding up quickly! Could you compile a list of "must-haves" to pack when traveling cross-country? What types of kitchen utensils are usually provided in a furnished rental?

Also, do you recommend getting the company's insurance or going with someone else?

Thank you!

Let me field the insurance question first. Recruiting agencies' insurance options are usually very good plans. I would say to start with your agency's coverage and if you later feel that it would be better to carry your own, you can make the switch at that point.

Here's a bunch of previous posts where I've talked more about insurance - carrying your own, state exchanges, etc. If you have more questions about the details, it might be worth wading through these links:

As far as packing.... less is more.

Most furnished apartments will have everything you NEED. There are other things you may WANT. I do have a container of kitchen stuff that I bring with me, just simple comforts that I enjoy - French press, a certain casserole dish I like, an other stuff like that. You may have other comforts that come to mind. I also have a small travel file box of important documents - licenses and certifications that I might need for work and tax info.

Less is more!

A couple bags of clothes - or one big bag if going to a warm climate by plane (Hawaii in mind) will cover most of your needs. No matter how big your car is you will find a way to fill it up, so pack like you're in a really small car.

I know that's a brief, vague answer, but I think it's the correct answer. The less you bring, the happier you'll be! (maybe I'll do a more extended answer on this in a blog soon)
