Re: Do Travel Placement Companies Require a Long Term Contra
Jonson, Nope! Contracts typically come on at a time. Generally 13 weeks, but this can vary depending on the specific job or need. If a setting is new to you (I've experienced this in home health), you may find the job asking for a 6 month contract to allow some additional time for training/orientati...

Re: PT/OT Traveling Together and other misc questions...
Honestly it probably hurts you to be an OT and PT because you have to find 2 jobs in a small geographic area... on the other hand, if there's a hospital where you want to go that needs a PT and an OT, then you are in like Flynn. There are lots of traveling couples out there that have a fine time fin...

Re: Traveling in an RV or Trailer
My wife and I had an RV in Alaska that we essentially lived in Friday through Sunday.... but we did have an apartment rented that was very definitely where we really lived. The 6 months with that weekender-RV was enough for me to gain some good RV knowledge and get totally hooked on camper lifestyle...

Re: Travel therapy companies
Hello! (I replied on email with my recruiter info included :)) Congrats on taking the leap into traveling, I hope there's a lot of good adventure ahead for you two. :-) I definitely advocate for talking with a few different recruiters, but maybe 3-4 max? A lot of jobs are jobs that all recruiters wi...

Re: When to start?
Just adding my 10 cents: I agree completely with Ashley on everything she said. September sounds fine to start searching... you could touch base with recruiters just to get the ball rolling, but probably won't find anything until pretty close to your starting date. I do try to avoid voicing my recru...

Re: LICENSURE Resources
This site takes the complication out of multiple state sites for looking up license numbers, verifying licenses, and figuring out the rigamarole of what each states' rules and regs for licensure are.

Re: Travel therapy companies
Sorry for the slow reply! I've been in transit the last week or so. Here's my short list of what I like in a company: -small to moderate size for better personal attention -cares about the therapist, willing to pull a contract if things go sideways at a facility -has a variety of assignments availab...

Re: Benefits
I forgot to mention retirement. A company that offers 401K or similar will not likely give you those benefits during your first assignment with them. Typical is slowly increasing retirement benefits as the number of consecutive contracts with a company increases. (just as an example to clarify: No 4...

Re: help!
Wendy! My heart goes out to you. That REALLY stinks. I hope that this is just a rough patch in what will eventually be smooth sailing for you. I don't know enough about your specific situation to really say anything with great certainty - it depends contract-to-contract what clauses there are for te...

Re: OT/PT couple interested in traveling
We absolutely despise long road trips in separate cars, so we do a lot to try and travel in one car. Our main move is buying and selling cars on Craigslist: http://hobohealth.com/wordpress/tag/craigslist/ We'll typically drive one car and buy one on Craigslist when we get where we're going. There's ...

A co-worker showed me this resource this week. You can search by body part and by condition... just a ton of Ortho information. Check it out, click around, pretty cool.

Re: Length of contract and hours of work
Aloha! Standard length for a contract is 13 weeks. With that said, I've had one 13 week contract that was going well and I ended up extending a couple times to total 10 months... extending contracts happens pretty frequently at places that have an ongoing need for therapists. I have done a couple 6 ...

Re: International Traveling Positions
Hello! I wanted to post a link directly to Amy's blog about international PT. She wrote it last year and it is the most complete resource I know of for international travel PT. http://hobohealth.com/wordpress/real-traveler-amy/ Also, she shared with me recently that she believes most places will req...
