Re: MY FIRST CONTRACT ...sort of... I have lots of ?????

I so badly want to trust your recruiter and say, "Don't worry about it!" But giving your notice and quitting your job is a really big deal... I would call your recruiter relentlessly to get a contract signed before you give notice. If you're on board and the school is on board, the contract should b...

Re: contacts

I gotcha! I'll shoot you an email right now.

Traveling is awesome. Takes some flexibility, but it's a great lifestyle. I can only imagine that the family doubt stems from "sounds too good to be true!" It's a pretty darn good deal.

Re: Winter Assignment Suggestions

Congrats on the choice to make the leap into traveling! I think you made a smart move getting a little experience in PT before setting out on the road - I think you'll find it will pay off in your ability to get quality assignments. More of what I think on New Grads going into traveling here: http:/...

Re: Relocation reimbursement

Congrats on the new job! I think the bottom line is that every recruiting agency has a chunk of money out of your contract that they are willing to give you. If you get $1000 travel reimbursement instead of $500, that extra $500 dollars has to come from somewhere - most likely your hourly pay or per...

Re: 2 ttherapists travels stipend

Yes, you both receive a stipend - the IRS sets maximum rates by zip code that each worker can be paid. So if you are living below what the stipends allow, you keep the money. We typically search with 2 to 3 recruiters at a time. It can vary whether we end up working for one recruiter or two differen...

Re: PT/SLP couple new to travel therapy

Depending on where you go, yes that sounds about right for pay. Where you are makes all the difference in the pay. Someone said to me recently, which is the best description I've ever heard of traveling pay: "$1450 to $1800 per week with some opportunities to make more than that." $1450 is low and $...

Re: Travel PT and Taking OCS Exam

Additional unsolicited thought: I think studying for the OCS and travel PT go well together. Travel PT inherently means changing jobs frequently - maybe every 13 weeks, but maybe just a time or two per year if you take some longer contracts or some extensions at jobs you like. Without a steady emplo...

Re: Travel PT and Taking OCS Exam

I took the OCS while traveling. I am glad to have the certification. I think it has been very marketable and gotten me good travel assignments I wouldn't otherwise have gotten. It is a hard exam and will require a lot of studying. The studying is mostly solitary, although I have seen online study gr...

Feel free to email me at [email protected] and I'll share my recruiters will you.

Whole thing is contrary to my experiences as a traveler. Definitely time to get another couple recruiters on the phone. Have you had any interviews?

Re: finding assignments

Bummer. Tough to say not knowing the local market there, but must just be a tough place to travel - or your timing is off. Flexibility is a virtue, the more settings you can open up to and the bigger you can make your radius, the more jobs will become available. But, I hear you loud and clear on the...

Re: finding assignments

Southern Maine is the only place I have ever run into that trouble - just a matter of a couple PT schools being in a small geographical area, so there's no shortage of PTs. I would think not finding a job for several months is rare. What you'll find in the majority of cities is multiple jobs availab...

Re: Traveling Mental Health Therapist?

Chelsea, here is a reply from one of my recruiters, I'm going to email you their contact info: "We do place social workers. Licensure is a pain though. Plus they typically need to be LCSW. They often have supervision requirements or need many years of experience to get another state license. We woul...
