Re: What should travel physical therapists be paid?

It is so hard to know.... and do the math that comes with it. Think of the stipends as part of the overall pay package, not just the hourly pay. So, the COTA may be making much less in stipends. For a PT, I think that $1500 to $1800/wk after taxes is the sweet spot that most assignments are going to...

Re: What should travel physical therapists be paid?

Bunch of layers here, some pertinent to right now, others relatable to travel PT over time. Right now, even as an advocate for always trying to squeeze more money out of a job, I'd take what I can get. If the company who says their pay is lower can get you a job, take it. If another company can get ...

Re: Current DPT Student considering Traveling PT

I think your plan to get a ton of different experiences is a great plan. I'll just get to answering your questions directly here. Sorry for the delay in ansering, I wanted to get you some thoughtful answers, 1. First, I am not really sure where to start. I was fortunate to talk to several agencies a...

Re: Start of travel questions

You nailed it. Without a tax home, you can't collect the tax free money, but it's fine to work with the agencies - people do it all the time. However, I would encourage you to try to negotiate higher pay because of your not getting the tax free benefits. As a very casual statement based on only a co...

Re: daily commute as a traveler

Hey Jackie, I think transportation is a factor you have to be considering when choosing an assignment. I often bought a beater car on Craigslist at the start of an assignment and sold it at the end - but that's a lot of footwork. On one assignment in Alaska, the owner of the clinic my wife was worki...

--- Replying to question: "I feel like Salt Lake City area must be the center of this type of work. Do you know anyone who has gotten a job in that area?" ---- I don't know much about the job availability around Salt Lake City. I work in Aspen, but know people who have found seasonal work in Vail an...

Re: PTA travelers?

I know there's some questions out there about how PTAs find jobs in a much more limited market than for PTs. I've directed a handful of travel PTAs to this post and hope there's some useful discussion. How do you, as a PTA, track down one of the limited travel PTA positions out there? Is it limited ...

Re: Considering traveling therapy and don't know where to st

Sorry for my slow reply. All good questions! I think the simple answer to all of your questions is that there is a way to do it if you can make the finances work. Travel agencies should be able to walk you through the process on finding housing, jobs, licensure, etc - and some will offer assistance ...

Re: Start of travel questions

Super slow reply.... so sorry. These answers may be too late to help you, but maybe they'll help someone else. OK, let's get to answering your questions. The simple answer is that you need a home base in order to collect tax-free monies as a traveler, which is really where the money is. Although, wi...

Re: Pediatric settings in travel

I have followed up with my Peds friend.... I am told a response is coming. I got an email from a company today advertising specialty in school placements for PTs. I have a long held policy of not promoting or dissing any companies in my posts, especially companies I have never worked for. If you wan...

Hey Cindy, sorry for the delay in replying - I'll shoot you the list of my recruiters on your email. Re: Pediatric settings in travel

I had a friend who traveled doing school contracts as an SLP - she seemed to have pretty good luck finding 9-month jobs is cool areas. I've also seen school-based PT jobs posted pretty regularly. So I do believe the jobs are out there. As far as pay, it seems like the easiest way to find out would b...
