Familiar Faces

A 90-something-year-old patient returned to the clinic today with the same caregiver who had helped him out last winter, let's call her Judy. It immediately brought a story to mind:

This older gentleman would come in with his caregiver on Sunday morning. Just me, the clinic, the patient, and Judy. One morning Judy kindly asked me if she could use treadmill while she waited for us to finish our PT session. "Sure" I said, afterall, what could go wrong. As the session wraps up I tell Judy we're finishing. She hits the stop button on the treadmill, but before it stos moving loses her balance, lands flat on her back and gets shot head first off the back of the treadmill. I looked-on terrified, seeing my job, licenses, and career flash before my eyes.

She really walked it off like a champ. If she was hurt she did not let it show... but I know I'd be a little banged up after that.
