Pediatric settings in travel

Hi all, I've worked in permanent peds positions for a few years and am considering travel PT. Wondering if anyone out there has pediatric experience with traveling:

1. I like the idea of a year-long (well, 10 months or so for the school year) school contract, just to make life a little simpler and minimizing moving quite so frequently. Are these opportunities few and far between, or are school positions more plentiful?
2. Would anyone be willing to share what kind of pay could be expected for a travel school position? I understand this will range with location/experience, but just a ballpark figure would be helpful. I've worked for three years and have my PCS. I'm not sure if the longer contract would increase or decrease the pay compared to a more typical 13-week contract.
3. Since there are breaks built into the school year, does anyone know if that time would be unpaid or if the contract would include pay for those times?

Thanks!

I had a friend who traveled doing school contracts as an SLP - she seemed to have pretty good luck finding 9-month jobs is cool areas. I've also seen school-based PT jobs posted pretty regularly. So I do believe the jobs are out there.

As far as pay, it seems like the easiest way to find out would be to call some staffing agencies, see if they staff schools, and ask them what kind of pay packages they typically get for schools - those would be very in-bounds questions to ask a recruiter on your first conversation (heck, now you have me curious, I might even call a recruiter and ask!).

As far as the other details, I'm just not sure. I have a close friend who has her PCS and used t be a traveler... I'm hoping she'll add some meaningful feedback here. :-)

I was considering something like this too, but it's tough. Everything I researched just didn't make me think I can pull it off. I guess your friend didn't have anything to add, James?

I have followed up with my Peds friend.... I am told a response is coming.

I got an email from a company today advertising specialty in school placements for PTs. I have a long held policy of not promoting or dissing any companies in my posts, especially companies I have never worked for.

If you want me to forward you the email, feel free to email me at [email protected]
