Re: Juris Prudence for AZ, CA

Here's the little feedback I got about AZ on the Facebook page: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1478712195509987&id=150373095010577 Also, a bunch of years back, I have a close friend, super-smart, who failed the CA test and had to retake. I think he just tried to wing it the first time b...

Re: Empty nester ready to go!

So many questions in one place! I'll do my best to answer. I have never lived with friends while on assignment, but I regularly stitched together roadtrips between assignments to see a bunch of different friends. But, I don't see any reason why if you have friends you could live/visit with for...

Re: Recommended traveling companies?

For me I guess it's more that I don't want to bad mouth the companies I don't like and it seems equitable to then not preach publically for the ones I do like... but that's just me trying to keep my site an impartial resource for travelers. Many similar websites have paid endorsements disguised as b...

Re: Recommended traveling companies?

If you'd like to send me an email, I'd be happy to share the companies I use.

I try not to be too verbal publicly about the companies I like or dislike.

Re: New grad considering travel job

2-3 different agencies is what I mean to recommend. When you work with an agency, you'll either just have one recruiter assigned to you, or they may have you work with different recruiters based on state or region. But do whatever feels manageable to you. I think working with 2 to 3 is best for some...

Re: Thinking about traveling

I would say you need to dictate to them where you want to go. They are pushing you towards Cali because they have a lot of need and can make good money placing you on assignment there. You should choose where you want to go and make them find jobs for you... Also, if there's somewhere you'd really l...

Re: HAWAII

It really depends where you'll be, but I think finding some sort of car will be to your advantage. If you're in Honolulu, that's really the only way you could live comfortably without a car - I've done that there. A bike and the bus system will get you pretty far - it's like any other big city. But ...

Re: Considering traveling therapy and don't know where to st

"What about mail? Car insurance? Renter's insurance? And things like that?" For mail: USPS has a "Change of Address" option that works marginally well. I have a long string of mail forwards through random PO Boxes that mostly get my mail to me... mostly. You will see there is an option for temporary...

Re: Travel Respiratory Therapy ?'s

Great questions. So great that I decided to make a blog out of it - hope these answers help: http://hobohealth.com/wordpress/traveltherapy/a-few-good-questions/ I try not to give specific recruiter recommendations on the site to keep it fairly impartial, but I'd be happy to send you an email with my...

Re: Considering traveling therapy and don't know where to st

Sounds great! Get out there. Traveling will be a wonderful way to explore and figure out where you really want to be. The dog may pose some difficulty in finding housing, but people figure out ways to travel with pets - many live in RVs, if that interests you at all. I try not to be too public bad m...

My wife and I are a PT/PT couple that were able to travel for 10 years. Sorry for my slow reply, we had a baby this week!!! I have had close friends who traveled different professions, but together. One couple was a PT and an ER Doc the other was PT/SLP. But couples were able to make it work for a l...

Re: Travel therapy companies

You're right, there are soooo many options. I once asked a JCO auditor how many staffing agencies they accredit - she told me "over 300"! ...and that was probably at least 5 years ago. I imagine there are more agencies now. There are a ton of agencies - if your agency doesn't treat you as well as yo...

Re: Shipping clothes, goods to assignment site?

We've shipped stuff super-slow through the post office (USPS). It seems to be the cheapest option by far. Boxes can weigh up to 75 lbs. But if you take the cheapest option (ground) it can take 3-4 weeks to get there. My advice, pare down. Get minimalist. Maybe ship a box or two, but get all of your ...
