Shipping clothes, goods to assignment site?

Unread post by Lora1234 » Thu Mar 23, 2017 10:06 am

Hi there! For my first travel assignment I was able to drive to the site with a full car including my bike and ski's, but my next job is in Alaska and I'll be flying out. What companies are good for shipping clothes/extra gear? Shipping company vs Fedex vs UPS vs USPS?

Thanks,
Lora

We've shipped stuff super-slow through the post office (USPS). It seems to be the cheapest option by far. Boxes can weigh up to 75 lbs. But if you take the cheapest option (ground) it can take 3-4 weeks to get there.

My advice, pare down. Get minimalist. Maybe ship a box or two, but get all of your essentials in a couple big bags that you can fly with.

My more outlandish advice: Drive to Alaska or check out the State Marine Highway for awesome/adventurous roadtrips. Several years ago, we drove up there nd took the Marine Highway ferry system back to the lower 48 with our car. Two blogs from a while back on those two trips:

Enjoy! Alaska will be an awesome adventure! Where are you headed there?
